Toys

We are looking at toys and games for our topic this term. We will be focussing on toys and games from our parents and grandparents time.

As a beginning to this unit the children were asked to bring to school their favourite toy. Quite a selection came along and we will be comparing these with some olden day toys.

Snow Time!

We had 2 days of school because of snow in Term 3. The children all tell me they had a great time making snowmen, throwing snowballs and making snow angels.

Here are some of their stories.

All of my family made a snowman. We threw snow at our Mum. Then a storm came. It was really big and cold. Then we picked Dad up from work.

It was really cold and it was hailing outside my house. I made a two layered snowman. I used little, spiky pebbles for the mouth and eyes. I got a carrot from inside for the nose. To make my snowman pretty I put a wreath on his head.. I used two short sticks for the arms. I put a scarf and a hat so it was warm.

In the snow I made a big snowball. It was cold outside. The ice was really cold. I made my snowball by myself.

In the snow I made two big snowmen. I used two bluberries for the eyes and raisins for the mouth and a banana for the nose.

It was very cold. I made a snowman with my Mum and sisters. It was fun. I made a snow fairy. I did it on the grass and it melted.

The snow was cold. There was ice. I like the snow because it is fun. You can make a snowman.

Thanking our Sponsor

As a class we decided we would thank Centennial Schools Duffy Books in Home Sponsor, New Zealand Dairies.

We wrote stories, published some comin life presentations and we also made a movie about why duffy books are important to us.

We made the published stories and comic life pages into books and asked a representative from NZ Dairies to come to our school assembly where we played the movie and presented them with our 2 books.

Mrs Soper wrote about what we had done and sent this information away to the Books in Hom,es co-ordinators. Mrs Soper won a trip to Auckland (a day trip) to visit at the Scholastic book offices and meet the Books in Homes team. She also got to choose $300 worth of books free! She was very excited and she promised to get everyone a book!

Below are some of our stories.

My favourite books are fish books. I have a fish book at home and a Nemo book. True books are my favourites.

I like Duffy Books because its fun to read them. You use different words.
by Skyler

Duffy books are important because they are special and they help us read books that have no pictures. I would like to get a Pokemon book because I like Pokeman.
By Kade

It is fun to read Duffy books. I read them to my little brothers and my Mum and Dad. It is fun to read books to my Dad.
By Mitchell

I like Duffy because we get Duffy books each year on Duffy days.
By Logan

Mrs Soper will have to work with Mrs Rivett to get the movis onto the blog... Watch this space.
