What's happening?

We are well into Term 4 already.. It has been a long time between posts - for anyone who doesn't know our teacher Mrs Soper broke her ankle when the school went to Tekapo iceskating! She had to have some time off school! The cast is off and she is back hobbling around the classroom helping us learn new things.

During Term 4 we will be focussing on 'WOOL' - the process from sheep to garment. This week we are heading out to Mrs Albrey's farm to look at her black and white sheep and to watch Mr Albrey shear a sheep. Charlotte's Mum brought in her carding machine to show us - turning the handle was quite tricky = you needed good muscles!

We will also be getting ready for our end of year concert for school - can't tell you much about that - you will have to come and watch!

Watch out for more regular posts and photos this term.....

Term three

Wow - time certainly does fly!

In Term three we will be focussing on the following things:

Topic - New Zealand Native flora and fauna.
Maths - shape and space and numeracy

Over the term we will also be looking at what 'learning' means to the children - so watch this space.

Mrs Soper has had no luck with putting our Kidspiration work on - she will have to keep working on it. We are going to try using Voice Thread to 'read' our WINTER poems to you on the blog. Hope we have better luck this time.
The children are going to begin adding their own comments, work and ideas. Keep a look out for this.

Children using technology

We use the computers and laptops at maths time. Sometimes Mrs Soper has set games she wants us to play but sometimes we get to do ICT games. This site has lots of cool games for us to play and we are practising our maths without knowing it.

Term Two

Welcome to Term Two.

We have been a bit slow getting our class bog up and running but we will do our best to keep it up to date now.

As you can see from the slideshow above we have started the term with lots of measuring. The children showed very good skills when using the rulers and the accuracy was good - most of the time!

This term we will be focussing on 'Our Community' which includes looking at our family, class, school and Waimate. The junior school is looking at how we and our families contribute to our community.
I will try to put the Kidspiration activity about our class community on the blog - keep your fingers crossed!

This term the children will be adding bits to our blog about what is happening in our class and school - excuse any spelling mistakes.

Keep a look out for new information.

Welcome to Ruma Tui Blog

We have started the new school year and we are slowly getting used to calling ourselves 'Tui' instead of Room four.

Our focus for the year is; 'What does it mean to be a New Zealander and to live in New Zealand?'

Over Term One we will be looking at finding out about ourselves, the people in our class and our school. During the term we will take part in Camp Week, Safe Walking, swimming and lots of other cool activities.

Keep checking our blog to see our work, comments and to find out what's happening in Ruma Tui and Centennial School.

Make sure your on our 'recent visitors' map!

Bye for now.
